Thanks to everyone who attended the first Bookmobile visit on February 28th. While PPLD's bookmobile provides book service, it is not a replacement for the programs and community space Rockrimmon patrons were accustomed to in their local branch. Still, there are ways that you can make the best of this bookmobile visit while we have it.

  • Email bookmobile@ppld.org and change your pickup location to Wilson Ranch Park.

  • You can now put books and other things on hold! Give it a try! If you choose something that is presently available at another location, it will be ready for pickup at the bookmobile! If you have been checking things out at 21C, you can now return them at the Bookmobile! I expect that many of us have been waiting for this day.

  • A PPLD librarian will be there to answer your questions, allow you to pay fines, register a new library card, replace a lost one, etc.

  • Seniors and all, it should be ADA-accessible, so please come!

  • While their collection will be smaller than a regular library, it will be curated carefully, and I’m sure that all of us can find a few books to check out.

  • PLEASE bring your children after school gets out, as you used to do at Rockrimmon Library. They will want to pick up books, too. I know that the schedule is tight (Foothills Elementary gets out at 3:50), but let’s try to get there, showing that our children also miss their library.

  • Feel free to come more than once.

Remember: bookmobiles are often called mobile libraries, but they do not replace a brick and mortar library:

  • No public internet/public computers/printer/copier/office tools area

  • Very small amount of books from which to browse (let’s all learn how to put materials on hold).

  • The stairs are hard for kidlets and seniors

  • Difficult to navigate with toddlers

  • No place for Toddler Time, Story Time, Senior Chat, Paws to Read, etc.

  • No place for art displays, children’s, teens, and other social areas.

  • No tutoring spaces

  • No comfy reading chairs

How to help: Email Julie Smythe, letting her know what services the bookmobile cannot provide that you are missing. jsmyth@ppld.org (president of PPLD Board of Trustees).
