Our mission

Born from the 2024 “Save Rockrimmon Library” grassroots campaign, Reading at the Rock Library is an all-volunteer initiative aimed at restoring library access to the northwest Colorado Springs community. Located at 950 Vindicator Rd, this interim library embodies the power of collective action and the enduring value of local libraries.

Our vision

A thriving Rockrimmon community where everyone has access to a permanent, full-service library that fosters lifelong learning, social connection, and community engagement. We envision a future where public libraries remain a cornerstone of our neighborhoods, empowering individuals of all ages with knowledge, resources, and a sense of belonging.

Facts about Reading at the Rock Library

We are not a PPLD Library -- but we hold PPLD as our "Gold Standard."

Our independent library, housed in Christ the King Lutheran Church and run entirely by volunteers, is not affiliated with PPLD. However, we model ourselves after PPLD's "gold standard" of service as we work tirelessly to bring a full-service PPLD branch back to the northwest part of Colorado Springs.

Our volunteers are screened, trained, and qualified.
We have over 80 active volunteers at Reading at the Rock.

  • All volunteers (except those under 18 years old) undergo a criminal background check before starting work in our interim library.

  • All volunteers complete training before working with the public.

  • Records of background checks and training are securely maintained.

  • Our Toddler Time program is led by an occupational therapist with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, AOTA board certification in Pediatrics, and 15 years of hands-on experience in child development.

  • Our Paws to Read program is the same program that served our old Rockrimmon Library and is still used at other PPLD branches.

We are a volunteer-run, community-powered library.
While we are not an official PPLD library or affiliated with the American Library Association (ALA), we are committed to providing safe, welcoming, and high-quality library services that meet PPLD’s high standards.

Security and Privacy

  • Patrons' records are securely stored in a locked filing cabinet.

  • All public computers are positioned within direct line of sight of our staffed volunteer desk.

In short, we are a passionate group of volunteers doing everything we can to fill the gap left in our community, and we will continue working toward the complete restoration of a PPLD library in northwest Colorado Springs.

A wonderful video from our Grand Opening on May 10, 2025. Thanks for sharing, Karin Zeitvogel.
